Their Finest Hour (1st edition)
Europa V: The Battle of Britain and Operation Sea Lion, 1940

  • Year of Publication: 1976
  • Publisher: Game Designers’ Workshop
  • Design: Marc W. Miller, Paul R. Banner, and Frank Chadwick

This package provides no fewer than 3 specific games: a detailed squadron-level air battle game, a Europa level air campaign game of fewer turns and fewer unit counters, and a land-air-naval battle game of the Sea Lion invasion plan. The combination of the air game campaign and its effects on the land-naval invasion adds still more possibilities. Europa level material includes air orders of appearance for Germany and Britain, 1939-41.

The initial version of Their Finest Hour was dated 2/76. It was promptly replaced by the 4/76 edition with extensive revisions to the rules and a small counter sheet with corrected units.

Their Finest House was completely revised and a new edition published in 1982.

  • Two 21″ x 27″ maps (11, 12) plus one Sea Lion invasion map at non-standard scale (“Europa supplement map—Sea Lion”)

  • 3 full counter sheets (14, 15, 16) and one half sheet (17) plus a small block of errata counters
