Narvik (2nd edition)
Europa IV: The Campaign in Norway, 1940

  • Year of Publication: 1980
  • Publisher: Game Designers’ Workshop
  • Design: Paul R. Banner and Frank Chadwick

Narvik is a game/simulation of the historical events surrounding the German invasion of Norway in the spring of 1940. Narvik is actually two games in one. The historical game faithfully recreates the situation and explores the alternatives open to the opposing field commanders at the non-standard scale of four days per turn with units as small as companies. On the strategic level, Narvik may be combined with the other games of the Europa series at standard scale. To this end, in addition to the counters provided for the historical game, counters for Norway and Sweden are supplied in strengths compatible with the Europa system.

Two sets of rules are provided. One set is complete and covers the historic campaign. The second set, labeled Europa Rules, is a supplementary set to be used when combining the Narvik maps and Europa scale counters with the other games of the Europa series.

This edition of Narvik was repackaged in a box with a different cover in 1984 but with no changes to rules or other components at that time. It underwent a major revision in 1998 as Storm over Scandinavia

  • Two maps (5B, 10A)

  • Three full counter sheets (11A, 12A, 13A)
